CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF!!

Next year over 600,000 people will die because they didn’t hit a new back squat PR!

All jokes aside, we know that this is not true. However, we DO know that 600,000 people will unfortunately die a premature death due to heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. That breaks down to about two thousand people a day, and about one every minute.

Where am I going with all of this? You have heard it time and time again: “Nutrition is the Cornerstone to Better Health, Better Performance and almost anything that ails you.”

If you are a member of our gym, you know that at the end of every single workout we ask our members about rest, nutrition, and hydration. When we first started, I thought that was a great idea. Now I don’t think it works and let’s explain why.

First, you need to have a goal. If your goal is not clear OR it is not measurable, it’s NOT a good goal. If you know what your goal is, then you can map out what to do to push you in the right direction.

Okay, so now you have a goal of wanting to lose 10 pounds of body fat. The absolute most important thing

is understanding how much you should be eating and actually tracking it.

Having a goal of wanting to reduce the amount of body fat you have without having a complete understanding of how much and what you should be eating, is a plan that is destined for failure.

If I get my car, and I know that I want to drive to California but I have no clue if I need to go North, South West, East, or a combination of those directions, I will never get to California as much as I really, want to get there.

Out of the check marks that we get on a daily basis, I would be shocked if 5-10% of you are actually tracking your caloric intake. As a facility, your coaches are working extremely hard to educate you on this area. There’s a whole white board where this system explained. There is a 2-hour YouTube video of Coach John and Coach Ryan breaking it down in great detail.

You may be saying to yourself, “John do I really need to track what I’m eating?” The answer is no, you can continue to not track what you’re eating, and continue to try and fight to lose the same 20 pounds for another 5 years. This is just the reality of how it works. I have never met someone who has been successful at a body composition change that was not tracking what they ate and drank on a daily basis.

Think of it like this: if somebody wanted

help setting up a budget with a goal of saving $10,000 over the course of the year, but refused to put down on paper what the income and the expenses were, we all know that they would not be successful. Your Nutrition works in a very similar fashion.

Am I saying that personal records and making improvements in the gym or not important? Absolutely Not!
Setting goals as far as performance are very, very important!  Just thing: 5, 10, 15 years from now
what will have a larger impact on your life- a better body composition and learning how to eat correctly for you the individual, or talking about how you used to be able to do unbroken toes to bar??

When we hosted the nutrition seminar, we had close to 60 people in attendance. We asked how many of you joined this gym because you wanted to be able to do muscle ups…. I think one hand went up. When we asked how many you join the gym because you want to be in better shape, improve your body composition, or live a longer life to be healthier, every single hand went up!

Knowing this, we have made a large attempt to really educate our members on how to achieve these goals.

A recap:

1. Set a body composition goal make it specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound (A SMART goal).

2. Understand what you will need to do as far as caloric intake to achieve that goal.

3. Implement and adhere to your plan until you hit that goal.

Don’t be lost in the sauce the information is out there and you have coaches that want nothing more than to see you succeed!!
